Dairy farm line of work (milk production and distribution) is also an important business in Puducherry as it is well coordinated, and it falls directly under the cooperative sphere. An advantageously instituted innovative dairy farm is one of the most prominent accomplishments of the union territory. What is more, the dairy farmers of Puducherry with the initiatives of Government of Puducherry have an exclusive union namely, The Pondicherry Cooperative Milk Producer's Union. The union is an initiative among all the assorted dairy co-ops in the union territory.

This united society was constituted during the year 1955 as Pondicherry Cooperative Milk Supply society. Nevertheless, the name was altered as the Puducherry milk producers union in 1973. The Pondicherry Cooperative Milk Producer's Union obtains milk from about ten thousand cow owners, who are registered members of the union. The registered members are duly paid for the milk supply.
