The Church of Lady of Lourdes in Puducherry
The Church of Lady of Lourdes is also known as Villianoor Thuya Loordhu Annai Thiruthalam in the local language. The Church of Lady of Lourdes is located in Villianur, which is just 13 km away from the city centre of Puducherry on the itinerary to Villupuram.
The church was established during the year 1876, and the church building reminds the original Our Lady of Lourdes Church in French Republic. The fantastic statue of Notre Dame was gifted to the Church of Lady of Lourdes Puducherry by the French Government during the year 1877. The Church holds significance in the account of the Catholic Church as the First Church in the World, other than the France, to be dedicated exclusively to Our Lady of Lourdes. Furthermore, it is really interesting to note that the Church of Lady of Lourdes features a tank which is pretty common in the Hindu temples. Devotees take a holy dip in the tank during the prescribed procedure of prizing the Virgin Mary.

The Church of Our Lady of Good Health, fondly called as the Ariyankuppam Church by the local Tamil people is an ideal instance of the French influence in the union territory of Puducherry.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, fondly called as the Thooya Irudhaya Aandavar Basilica is located in the south Boulevard of Puducherry union territory.
